Tradewind and credit insurer Coface joined forces and hosted a seminar on June 21 at the golf venue Strokes in Hong Kong. The event was calibrated to a business audience that has experienced struggles with clients not paying on time or not paying at all when selling internationally and on credit terms.
Vice President of Tradewind William Avedon and Head of Coface Hong Kong Joe Louie started by welcoming the audience and introducing them to the concepts of export factoring and credit insurance. Two speakers then took over and talked extensively about payment trends in Asia Pacific. Presenter Carlos Casanova, Coface’s Asia Pacific Economist, explained what country risk assessment is and how it’s calculated. He also gave an overview of the main economic sectors in China and the top payment trends using Coface’s 2017 report that surveyed 1,000 Chinese companies. Rocky Yu, CEO of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, presented dos and don’ts in collecting payments and discussed the logistics and economic development in the greater bay area including Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The event ended with a cocktail reception where participants enjoyed networking and sharing experiences.
